Launched back in 2006, the TOM FORD Black Orchid is a sensuous blend of Black Truffle and Ylang mingled with fresh Bergamot and delectable Black Currant.
Tempting florals and rich fruit accords provide a flourish whilst the heart of the scent is deepened with the intoxicating Lotus Wood. The decadent Noir Gourmand Accord is balanced by Patchouli-incense and Vetiver. Vanilla tears add a fluid creaminess to warm Balsam and smooth Sandalwood.
When designer Tom Ford sought to launch his first fragrance 10 years ago, he went in search for the elusive Black Orchid, which is known for its deep alluring scent. And so intrigued was he by the mystique of the rare orchid strain that he ended up approaching a high-profile Swiss orchid breeder to create his own black bloom.
Firstly the Velvet Orchid in 2014, a lighter version of the classic, and for the summer of 2016, the Orchid Soleil – A radiant and sensual force of nature, the new scent captures the seductive warmth and reflective bare skin of the TOM FORD woman.
“To me, it is the perfect flower…luxurious, elegant, pure and sophisticated,” says Ford. He says the Black Orchid wearer should feel “desired, sophisticated and sensual”, and if anyone can provoke such emotions through the act of putting on a fragrance, you can bet it’s Tom Ford.
To mark the anniversary, the brand will be releasing the Tom Ford Orchid Collection of scents and cosmetics inspired by the iconic scent.
It will consist of the Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, hydrating emulsion, an atomizer set, and solid perfume‚ all in the Black Orchid scent. A special crystal bottle edition of Black Orchid, designed by French brand Lalique, will also be part of this collection. There are also new blush powders and lipsticks, as well as select Velvet Orchid editions. Of course, for a man who epitomises luxury, the designer who is widely credited for turning around the fortunes of two of the world’s most famous design houses, just releasing an orchid-themed collection would not do, which is why there’s also the Lalique edition; a limited edition pure black crystal perfume bottle created by the French glassmakers exclusively for the brand. Unsurprisingly the bottle, which includes the highest concentration of the scent, has a price tag to match the limited run of just 1,200 available worldwide – don’t expect to find it in your local beauty hall.
