“Les Blés de Chanel” made its debut at Paris Haute Couture Week. The French fashion house presents a glittering 62-piece collection of one-of-a-kind diamond and gemstone earrings, necklaces, rings, watches and bracelets that pays homage to Coco’s unlikely love of wheat. Unfolding a new volume in Chanel‘s storied annals, the maison crafts the Les Blés de Chanel, a collection that draws upon Coco Chanel’s childhood memories and her great fondness for wheat.
For Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. wheat was a symbol of prosperity and a recurring design element in her Rue Cambon apartment: Sheaf motifs sprouted in a painting by Salvador Dalí, on an ornate fireplace mantel and the pedestal of a Regency-style table.
The dominating color scheme in the collection is green and yellow in various shades. With the help of yellow sapphires, diamonds, peridots and yellow gold, the French luxury firm is able to capture the journey of the grain. Other variations of the designs within the collection include white diamonds, white gold and aquamarines alongside cultured pearls from Japan and Indonesia.
“Coco Chanel associated wheat with good fortune,” said Benjamin Comar, the international director of Chanel Fine Jewellery.
To showcase the line, Chanel is sponsoring a wheat-based art installation by Gad Weil on Place Vendôme, across from its jewelry and watch flagship.
