Philippe Starck has definitely lended his hand (mind, body and soul) to the look and feel of the brand new Asian restaurant Miss Kō right in the heart of Paris, France. A visit to the new Miss Kō restaurant, the youngest child of restaurateur Claude Louzon is like a stroll through a real bustling Asian street market. The sights, the sounds and the smells are all represented in Starck’s sensory-arresting design. After a few steps off the street in Paris’ Golden Triangle, Miss Kō, the nude Eurasian heroine, covered in body ink (the artwork for Miss Kō’s intricate and beautiful tattoos was created by Horikitsune aka Alex Kofuu Reinke) that captivates one immediately, takes her guests on a journey of both culinary and cultural experience. See, the restaurant’s name and identity are based around this magnificent character. A young, sexy and eternally mysterious symbol of Asia and its embodiment in the very heart of Europe. And the Miss Kō logotype, is simply 9 grains of rice; each of the 9 grains represents one of the asian countries which inspired the creation of this menu and rice, well, rice is the staple of all asian cuisine and integral to the Asian way of life. A great job done by GBH concerning the branding.
As for the cuisine at Miss Kō, oh it is indeed pan-Asian by birth. How could it not with dishes spanning the Asian continent from Japan to Korea, and China to Vietnam. Guests can enjoy fresh sushi of both traditional and progressive preparation, while the chef’s specials merge a variety of Asian influences with a distinct European sensibility.
“It is a place of freedom, humour, creativity, art, friendliness, openness. Miss Kō is a breath of madness, it’s truly insane. A street out of Blade Runner: a cement parking-garage wall with Formica chairs, TV screens that spew out hundreds of images of live news coverage from Asia, a kitchen that smokes and smoulders.”, waxed Starck poetic.
And, indeed, the design of Miss Kō by Philippe Starck is the stand-out characteristic, the true star of this new restaurant, undoubtedly raising the bar of expectation for all future restaurant experiences to come. Hell, be it in Paris, or else where. Because this is a place where street food, cocktails, art, and music meet to create a unique culinary experience.
