Back in January, Raf Simons, Creative Director of Dior, said the brand would hold its cruise runway show in Los Angeles on May 9. But this is no longer the case. Dior moved its Resort Show to the 11th of May (today) and the French Riviera – the Bubble Palace, the futuristic and extravagant home of Pierre Cardin. Located close to Cannes, perfect timing for the annual film festival to start on May 13.
The conceptual Cardin house was designed by Hungarian architect Antti Lovag and was constructed roughly between 1975 and 1989 – originally built for Pierre Bernard, but later property of Pierre Cardin.. The house’s seaside location has magnificent views and a unique cave-like structure. Cardin worked beside Christian Dior himself in 1946 before launching his own couture house and bought the Palais Bulles in 1992. Cardin once described the house as “something of a gallery of living art” and “a little corner of paradise.”
Dior, like many other powerhouses, has been taking its resort collections on the road since 2013. Their last show was held in Monaco and in 2014 Dior’s cruise show was held in New York at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The villa is located in the town of Théoule-sur-Mer, 10 km outside of Cannes, just enough to provide the impressive view of the bay. The house covers the total area of about 1200 square meters and consists of a reception hall, panoramic lounge, open-air amphitheater with 500 seats, 10 bedrooms, all decorated by various artists like Patrice Breteau, Jerome Tisserand, Daniel You, François Chauvin, Gerard Cloarec, etc. Therefore, every suite looks different.
The yard is 8,500 square meters large and includes swimming pools, fountains and ponds.
We just can’t wait for the Dior Cruise 2016 to start.
