One of the more prominent features of Tokyo is its advertisements, which saturate the city’s architecture. The countless billboards featuring brands, shops,  promotions, or events are a very familiar sight to residents as well as visitors. Tokyo’s ads are part of its appeal, but what would the bustling streets of Japan’s capital look like without this madness of logos, slogans and company names ?

French graphic designer Nicolas Damiens imagines how Tokyo would actually be like without the ads in his personal project “Tokyo No Ads”.  And Damiens’ animated gifs showing before and after images where ads have been gently removed are a bold sign of how prevalent they are.
