Although more known for his dissident art and outspoken views on censorship and political freedom, the rebel creative is foraying into the accessories realm, and I must admit, I quite love it.
Weiwei teamed with a Elisabetta Cipriani gallery in London to create jewelry pieces that blend fashion and sculpture. For the project, Weiwei molded strips of gold to resemble reinforcing bar used in construction. It was in many ways a nod to his installation “Straight,” which featured steel bars from China’s horrific Wenchuan earthquake. The gold rods were first straightened and then stacked atop each other to create their sinouous winding effect.
If in London, do not miss it: they’ll be on display, until January 16, 2016.
